Bang(s)

I cut my hair today. I gave myself “bangs” again, for the first time in … years. Not sure how long. I have been sick of my hair falling in my face, in my way when drying after I wash it, just in my way when this and that, and so my tendancy as been to just put it in a ponytail too often, and then be stuck with that since it “pulls” my curls out the more I play with it and don’t wear it down and refresh it. I mean, I take more care of my curls when I wear it down, but ignore them entirely when I put it into a ponytail forever until I wash it again, which means I’ll sleep in a ponytail and wear one for days if I’m not going any where that means much to me. If I want to look better then I’ll wash it, but I don’t have to wash my hair much, since it I do use the “conditioner only” method and I don’t have dirty looking hair, like say my 9 year old daughter gets easily (she has very straight hair.)

A few weeks ago I did cut some of my length off. It wasn’t much overall, since I’m post-pardum, I was left with straggling ends, especially in the back, so I cut off a few inches and had a small handful of hair. It made it feel different, but I still wasn’t satisfied with it. So I made bangs today, and wonder if I made them a tad too short (curly hair “shrinks” when ‘reset’ with water, and boy did they ever BOING up, but they’ll grow fast) and don’t know if I cut enough of my hair into “bangs” –so I’ll have to play with it to make a decision about more bangs, or not, and should I cut the length a bit more, or even give myself some layers to give the top of my hair so lift (being a Botticelli curly girl) -meaning that the top layer won’t be as heavy if it’s shorter than the length, so it’ll curly up more easily, instead of being pulled down as usually when all the hair is longer. It should already be a tad of difference in the front just because the “bangs” are there now instead of the much longer locks that were there this morning, and for years before, in different renditions (I had cut the front a bit some time ago, to give me something shorter there, but way longer than “bangs” and then I had it longer after that and for a long time before that.)

The thing about me is that I have wanted to grow my hair as long as I can get it. But … I want my hair to be as curly as it can be. The two don’t go together as objectives to get as the same time. I tried so hard to do the growing, and did very well for quite awhile, but it just feels so blah and that’s why I got my bangs back. I don’t like how I am much without bangs, but lived like that for a long time.

I will not cut my hair “short” overall. I still want long hair, but I need to have it free to flow into curls happily, and that means shorter layers here and there at some degree. So I have my work cut out to figure that all out. (Yes, all by myself, I just don’t do ‘salons’ any more, I never have had long enough hair after coming out of one of them, either my choice to go shorter or their twisting of me to go shorter than I seemed to want, but they generally don’t consider the “curl” and that’s danger danger danger! I actually like doing my own hair cutting anyhow. It’s a slow process when I do it, some this day, some that day, whenever it suits me. )

Holiday Season 2007 – What To Wear

The initial “holiday season” is over … which is Thanksgiving, which brings in the “Christmas Season” practically, and in our home there is also something else, before or after Thanksgiving. It’s a birthday. This year it was the Sunday after, so “Christmas Season” for us feels like it doesn’t start until after that, and so it is such now.

There is a wedding later in December for us to get ready for, and I can kill two birds with one stone this year. Getting something for each child to wear for Christmas and the wedding, just one outfit, holiday nice-enough for a wedding, Christmas Day just to look nice and for pictures that day, and we usually go out to the movies as well, dressed nice. I will hopefully be able to get the clothes and something for me too, and do it soon enough to get a family picture to send around. Oops. I can’t believe I wrote the above and totally forgot about the baby! I didn’t really in writing, but did forget about him in thinking about the “outfits” in my mind.

I had gotten nice flannel shirts for each boy from Osh Gosh, and thought about having them wear them with Osh Gosh jeans for a picture, but that doesn’t really go with the “holiday nice-enough” idea of “wedding”-able. So I have to re-think and do something else. My thoughts have been to find nice winter sweaters and turtlenecks with babycord pants. Of course, we don’t have any of that, except one boy does have a black turtleneck he could wear if we found a sweater to go with it that is good for his “Spring”-ish (not sure if he’s a true Spring or a mix with Autumn perhaps … but maybe not) coloring (black just being a very small accent, to wear underneath something more colorful.)

The baby does have a couple of turtlenecks he could wear, but no “nice pants” nor any “sweater” of any sort. Nor any “nice shoe-things” either.

I have such “casual” stuff for all the boys. Not that I’m looking for “formal” anything, no, just “moreso dressy-er” — and for my girl, she has had dresses every year for quite a few now, that are lovely, from Strasbourg Children, but I don’t have anything that fits her that is even a “tad” dressy that isn’t summer-y.

Now then, it’s me that’s the problem. I’m 5 months post-baby-born, and not able to wear many things either because I’m breastfeeding or just weirdly shaped still. So most of my stuff I have to wear that I CAN wear is non-holiday, and not very nice over all. Very, very, very casual.

So now I’m wondering just how I’ll be able to pull this off. The only thing I have that I could do, if it fit, which it doesn’t, is a lovely wool skirt and blazer “set” that I got at Dillards a couple of years ago. It’s a blue and black plaid pleated fairly long skirt and a solid blue blazer and they don’t, as I said above, fit me now. The blazer, sure, I could wear it, but it’s the skirt that’s the problem, just not able to get it put together right still. If I could, then it’s just a blouse I’d need to find.

We’ll have more money to burn come 2008, but January is too late to have anything to do with December clothes needed. Oh, well. So I’ll just have to wait until the end of this week and see what we can squeeze out of everything to make something do-able in the clothing department. The hardest part though is going to be finding a solution for me at all, and being able to afford the girl solution (which I could find easily at the SC store, mentioned above.) Then next in line is finding the right thing for the boys to wear.

I wasn’t into “matching” things for the boys before, just co-ordinate nicely enough together — that was with 2 boys. Now there’s a third boy, though he’s still a baby, but he has the same coloring as his oldest brother, and so it’s kind of nice to have them matching and then have the other brother in the same sort of thing but a different color. He’s a “Spring” as I said above, and the other two are blond, blue eyed “Summer” boys. It’s possible, just might be hard to pull off that way.

So I’m anxiously awaiting the end of the week to start solving this puzzle.

Baby Announcements

I haven’t been writing here for a long while, and not much on my other blog either, but some there. Here is where I usually put a picture for the top of the front page, something “recent” and that has been the intended plan to do it frequently, but I just haven’t even put much of anything on my FLICR account either. Why? Partially or mostly it’s all because of the new baby, and my lack of getting his Announcements out in the mail. That problem is partially solved, I got one Announcement into the mail yesterday! :) I have more to get out, but that first one was the important one, to the only “grandparent” that remains, my DH’s Dad.

I wanted to get a photo printed in wallet size to include in the Announcement and that is what was the final straw of keeping them from going out for awhile (before that it was the “making of” the announcement that kept it from going out …)

I had originally planned to get the most recent good photo of the baby printed, and then laminate it with my Xyron 900 laminate/magnate cartridge (a cartridge I got entirely for this purpose.) I finally got a picture printed by uploading one to Ritz and having it printed for pickup the same day. It worked. But I used a photo from when he was just 3 months old by a couple of days. He’s 4 months old now, so it’s not the most recent photo as I had intended. It’s not exactly the sort of photo I’d wanted to use either, but with me being tired and not wanting to search through the myriad of digital pics on my hard drive and knowing I didn’t want to set-up to take something new right then, I just looked in a few folders here and there for a nice set and picked one out from a session of cute ones. I actually picked one out, then changed my mind later and then later changed it to another one again … before committing to actually uploading it to order.

I also messed up then, when I went to laminate the first two. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve used that machine with a new cartridge and “forgot” to crank it out a couple of inches first to get that ugly ‘blech’ out so I have a clean nice project outputted, I can guess it’s nearly every time. Sigh. So I had the first batch of the nice project ruined. I don’t know how many of them I’ll make, I’ve made a whole sheet of pictures into the project thus far, with 2 of them trashed, of course. I don’t even know how many announcements I’ll be sending out. I am still trying to get addresses collected (I’ve lost all my address listings by not saving things from old computers or updating things here and there the past few years, and not sending out any Christmas cards the past couple of years, and getting very few in the mail anyhow for longer than that, frustratingly.)

I’m happy to send one to anyone i know who wants one — so if that applies to you, dear reader, feel free to let me know so I can email you about your mailing address. Just a comment here and I can contact you (your email address is required to post a comment, but will not be visible to anyone but me [inside my blog admininstration.] ) I would only contact you at your request, as well. Fear not of spam attacks or unsolicited email of any sort from me or this blog.

I’m semi-duplicating this part of the post to both my blogs, tailoring the beginning to reflect the right blog. FWIW.

————————

So it’s November now, and things are more “indoor oriented” with the weather cooling down outside. I might have more time to post, and more things to post about on this blog, but I won’t promise that. But I will promise new photos more frequently to grace the top of my front page, now that I will release my baby to the web somewhat since the announcements are going out. :)
