Updating old htc evo lte as wi-fi device

Post Published:

I’ve been trying to update my old HTC Evo LTE phone, which is now not serving us with a phone line number. I had CM 10.2 on it, but wanted to make it work better for a wi-fi only device, responsive and useful.

I updated TWRP no problem, looked into several ROMS and then updated HBoot to where I should be, then kept having Fastboot unable to locate my device  … adb no problem, but fastboot, plain just dispersed on me. Any way, short story, another TWRP and then ROM installed inside … weird stuff, let’s just say something wasn’t right. Ended up in a TWRP loop boot. No booting into recovery, and that was that, it just flashed on and off like that.

My Dirty Racoon unlock was gone too, tampered and LOCKED … but still the solid S-off. Sigh. It was along time ago I worked on this device.

So I finally got the last RUU for this device and was able to run it through (finally could get it on HBoot) and so since running the RUU, I HATE the phone, plus yes, fastboot and adb are not a problem in and of them. Not sure what it is but I can’t send fastboot flash recovery “twrp.img” successively.

Ended up I don’t know what happened but … I found the old unlock bin code email, (they never sent a new one to me this time) and it worked to unlock, then voila twrp flashed just fine. Stupid HTC phone. I called it that when I unlocked it the first time in 2013. Hours of headaches ugh.

So now I’m running Dirty Unicorns on it., not sure I’ll keep it, but it’s pretty nice so far.
