PSN Activations – starting from Scratch

My hubby called PSN support today. They answered very quickly, but … I felt they didn’t get to the point of understanding what we wanted exactly, but eventually were going to do the ONE TIME ONLY EVER IN THE LIFE OF THE ACCOUNT wiping of all activations.

This is silly as the only reason I HAD to have them do it is that THEIR system messed up giving me devices I had labeled that were real PSP’s to be only virtual PSP’s activated with Video/Comics & Music and the real world PSP’s when I activated each one, my personal one connected to my virtual one as it should, but the other two showed up as NEW PSP’s and that’s purely nothing that I did. I couldn’t deactivate the PSP Video/Comic activations because I had no deviced tied to those virtual activations, they went into limbo even though the ones were no different from before in my house, with mine acting right, and the other two totally not connecting to those profiles online in Sony’s database, FOR WHATEVER REASON! But all I wanted was for them to fix it.

The biggest thing about it is, if they stick to their guns and say later, “We can’t do that because on November 26, 2011 we did that for you and it’s a once in a lifetime thing for any one PSN ID.”  … this post is about it, and I will demand justification for it again, since they messed up my systems with their deactivation scheme in the first place.

So anyhow, I got the account wiped. Within a couple ours everything was off my account and I started from scratch and added each device in and labeled it appropriately. I only activated GAMES on everything. Nothing else. Sony automatically puts MUSIC on each device (I don’t use it though, signed into it once this year just to see what it was, but didn’t do anything with it and that’s that.)

I’m not putting VIDEO on any machine/device unless I need it in the future. On each PS3 we can’t do it (only 1 is allowed per account.) I don’t know if that is ONLY the PSN Store Video (I guess it is) and that the other kinds of video I can do on either/or whenever without “VIDEO” activation. (Netflix, Cinema Now,  Hulu, Vudu, but Video Unlimited I don’t know.)

In the past I’ve gotten video on my computer from Amazon Unboxed. I’m not a big fan of digital renting of movie or shows as you don’t have much time with them if something keeps you from it, I prefer discs to that, plus a disc can be watched anywhere, anytime as many times as desired and sold or given away later if desired. Digital content, if you buy it, it is yours forever and limited to the program it is part of, either in their cloud service or on your harddrive. No thank you except for Digital Copy from some movie discs, that’s a back up version to watch without the disc at times, nice sometime, hardly used but a nice feature, and it’s not my only option. I like options.

That’s why Sony has me not so happy with this license change. It’s less options.

Now then, on the phone the person my hubby talked to told him about how Me as Master account with Sub Accounts works. I know how it works and how I WANT it to work, but she/he was supposedly telling him that on the PSP it DOES work the way I want, but she’s not right. I know, nothing has changed, their are no controls in Master Accounts to let them use my content. They have to be logged on as me on the portable devices. Why they don’t change that, I don’t know.

For some games they can put their sign-in PSN ID in, but for some games they HAVE to have MY PSN ID input. It’s not an easy thing, it’s a jump through hoops to do it kind of thing. I wrote about it early this year (in August) when we bought Syphon Filter Combat Ops on PSN… and then referred to it again when we got the UMD of Syphon Filter Logan’s Shadow
.

Still waiting … (theme of my life)

Still waiting for hubby to call Sony about the PSP activation thing I wrote about last. He said he would that day, didn’t, nor the next, and so on.

I can’t believe it from this perspective, that their stuff is so messed up as to not recognize that those two PSP’s are the same ones as before hitting the Deactivate button. The Music/Video/Comics activation is totally annoying, as you can’t get rid of old ones that are activated with that stuff since that stuff isn’t EDITABLE ONLINE ANYMORE as it once was (I know, I took that stuff off of one of the old ones we don’t have anymore but was still connected to the account, then the DEACTIVATE from post 11-18 did take that one away totally. There is no way to take such an approach now though, cause the DEVICE section was changed, and there is no way to change the PSP Music/Video/Comics thing anymore. I’m glad I did it when I could, before, but now I’m locked with two PSP’s listed with that stuff, and when trying to activate the ACTUAL PSP’s in question, they can’t be activated for that stuff, and if I activate for GAMES they show up as NEW PSP’s, don’t connect to the ones there already, thus I refer to those on my account as Virtual PSP’s, they used to be representative of IRL PSP’s but no longer are connected. Urgh!!!!!

HTC Sense 2.1 Calendar All-Day Event problem

I have an HTC Evo 4G phone, and an HTC EVO VIEW 4G tablet. [HTC]

I like them both. The tablet has an updated HTC Sense. The Calendar is nicer on the tablet, from the phone, with this one caveat:( It’s very annoying) All-Day Events in the calendar show up at the top of the day, also show in the agenda, but if you TOUCH one of them, that opens a “No Appointment” blah screen.’ Where are the details? In the event, but they aren’t accessible unless you EDIT the event, and for that you need to long-press on the event in another view, you can’t do anything with it in the “No Appointment” screen.

I don’t WANT to edit the event though, only VIEW the information.

On my phone the list of events for a day, the same All-Day Event shows in the list of things for the day, and if you touch such an event it opens a View Event screen of all the details for the event.

That is what I am missing. I hate how the tablet treats the very same events as the phone has, so differently. Same calendars, it’s not the old “HTC Calendar Bug from 2010″ It’s Sense 2.1 induced, no doubt, and I can find not ONE SINGLE entry online about it yet.

I’m assuming that the HTC Flyer (1st cousin of the HTC EVO VIEW, or little brother, whatever) has the same problem.

It’s not just my calendar, it’s also calendars I share that belong to someone else, they all work one way on my phone, great, and a different way on my tablet, not great, bad in fact.

I hate having to search and search endlessly and never come up with something. I use a billion different ways to describe what I’m looking for but can’t find anything but the old calendar bug about All-Day events from early 2010.

Treat this post as an entry into the arena for this HTC Sense 2.1 calendar bug (or design) –get rid of it HTC! Fix it so the details for the All-Day Event show when a basic touch is performed.

Breathing Life into 12″ Touchscreen Laptop

I used to use an HP tx2500 laptop. I gave that up to my husband to use after about a year, he used it for awhile, it promptly gave him trouble (while I had no trouble with it per se, mostly the trouble I had was VISTA, in my humble opinion.)

When I handed it off to my husband I fresh installed Windows 7 onto it. It seemed much better, in fact, the things I hated were gone. All new things cropped up over some time. BSOD’s and running hot … so it went on, I cautioned him about over-using it when he didn’t HAVE to, and such things to do to keep it cooler, blah, blah, blah.

At some point he got something else and the little laptop was now an extra one, and so I used it some, and put accounts on it for two of my children. It started getting worse at times, but not always. Eventually though, it had a graphics problem which was quick fix-able by pressing down on the keys all together above where the graphics on the motherboard is. It took the right touch, then would work after a re-start for days to hours, depending on ?.

I retired it, waiting to get more Artic Silver 5 and to think through what I could do and to basically FEEL like opening the laptop up.

I did do so last week. I took it all apart, looked at the motherboard, took the all in one assembled processor & heatsink and the graphic cover off, cleaned up the area with rubbing alcohol  then applied the AS5 and put the processor back on, and the soft sticky pad that goes over the graphic area. Screwed the whole thing down really tight. Put the laptop back together and the power was charging the battery, but the computer wouldn’t boot on at all. Realized that I hadn’t connected that one little thing … and had to unscrew and open up and connect … tried the boot up right then and there, and yes, it does work after all!

I have had to press on the graphic area a few times since, but hardly ever compared to before, and it’s not as “bad” of a messed up problem most of the time either.

It seems that others with similar laptops have “baked” the motherboard to re-glue the graphics to the motherboard. I couldn’t see any problem with that per-say, I mean, it needing that, if it’s evident from looking at it or not. All I know is that the laptop was so hot all the time before. It was so hot. The stuff that was on the processor before was really dry and flaky, so I’m sure it’s in a better state right now, good AS5 in there, not too much, not too little. It wasn’t dirty in there either. It was just old thermal grease and that’s it.

The graphics covered with the pad and then the heatsink, I just figured that having it as well press around it as possible plus the heatsink screwed in just tight enough was going to help.

The heat from the processor is so right next door to the graphics. I hate laptop design, in so many ways. Anyhow, just getting 5 years out of one is a feat, and I have done so with more than I want to count.

Sometime I may get a copper sheet to put over the processor, as in the penny fix, but with a sheet of copper instead. As it is, temps for the cores are in the high 30′s up to 42°c idle, going up higher with browsing, video skyrockets it, but that is steady into the 60′s at most. It hasn’t gone higher.

The processor is rated to go to 115°c … the laptop is performing alright for basic use in schooling for my children and usually the graphics problem crops up when turning the laptop on from on off state. So it’s not a problem that forces a shutdown really.

Time will tell.

HTC EVO View tablet – Scribe Pen & Cover

The HTC EVO View is a really nice tablet device. I’m enjoying mine immensely. When you first get one it may or may not come with the Scribe pen.

Like me, it did, when I was at the Sprint store picking up the purchase they gave me one, naked, I mean, no box or anything, no instructions. They didn’t know what it could do. The thing that I found out after thinking it maybe could, and reading about it.

The non-writing end of the Scribe pen is capable of capacitive touch.

It gives the Scribe pen much more life and usability. Which then makes me scratch my head and ask, “Then why is there no place to put the pen with the device when you aren’t using it, but would like it close by?”

OK, what about Cases to put the device in. Can they be found? Not at the Sprint store. Not on their website either.

Best Buy sells a couple under their Rocket Fish brand. Do they work? Sure. Mostly. Are they nice, not really, not when you put the pedal to the floor. There is no pen holder on the leather one I looked at (and ended up purchasing, just to have something immediately!) and the other is a neoprene zip case sort of thing, so … it conceivably can hold a pen, does it have a spot for it, to keep it secure? I don’t know about that. What I do know is, that’s not the sort of thing I want in any case.

So with all that, what is it about the case I do have from BB, Rocket Fish Leather Folio for HTC Flyer (HTC Flyer has the same body as the HTC EVO View) … it’s simplistic. Doesn’t have a secure strap to close it. Light magnetic closing only. It’s like a folder, or a book. Open the flap, close the flap.

The flap has folds in it to allow it to be folded behind as a stand. I can make it stand up profile with it, no problem. Landscape though? Get real. It can’t do it safely. It’s unsafe for the screen. If you can manipulate it to stand in landscape mode, be wary of it suddenly tipping forward. It can and probably will.

Besides that, it’s still just a simplistic cover, nothing spectacular about it. It’s nice enough to look at closed, but, that’s not why I want one. I want one for it’s protection of the device, for it’s functionality in opening into a usable case for profile or landscape viewing. I’d like the Scribe pen sometimes, and it’s a problem keeping track of it. Where did I leave it? Is it on my desk, bed side table, counter, purse, can’t find it … oh there it is.

If I were going to keep the case I’d make a pen holder for it. But I’m not. I want something a bit more on the pizazz side of things. Leather, real leather. NOT pleather or any other synthetic. Yuck.

It has to have a pen holder that works.

It has to be able to convert into a profile/landscape stand for the device.

It has to be able to have the menu buttons available on the sides. Let’s see, it’s a big deal. This is something the BB case (I have already) has wrong. Speaking from the Profile view, Front camera on right is not covered, bottom area is nicely not covered, left though is too covered for when using landscape view, that becomes the bottom and the menu buttons flip to that area. (Really cool!) The BB case makes it a pain and a half and more to use that functionality of the tablet. It’s more than an annoyance. It’s the PRIMO reason I have for wanting another one.

I know what I’d like to try. Hope I can and hope I’ll like it and not regret it. IF I can get it. That’s a big question. I have 30+ days to return the BB one, and if I don’t have a replacement first, that’ll be problem for me.

Bottom line is the case I am looking at is totally different. the device sits in this thing, all edges not covered on the top, just the sides, leaving all camera and menu buttons fully accessible to the nth degree. Cut outs everywhere that this device needs them. A leather interior and exterior, hard shell between that. Flap that covers the front, folds behind to be a stand. Oh, yes, and a loop for the pen on the cover. Nice. It’s perfect, I think, Piel Frama.

Getting Help Installing Android Market Apps from phone to a new tablet

I bought Bejeweled 2 on my HTC Evo in the past several months. It’s something I’ve wanted to use on a larger touch screen device, like which I now have in the HTC EVO View tablet I got yesterday.

In the Market on my new device there is no Bejeweled 2.

On my computer Bejeweled 2 is not compatible with my new device, so they say, and it will not let me install to it there.

So I tried again today, looked online for others with solutions or complaining and found very little about it at all.

I did read something about people not having this or that anymore when it dissapears from the Market … and some people said to make sure to back up those .apk’s … one way is with Astro File Browser … which I have on my HTC EVO. So I went to that, looked at the backup function and clicked on the 2 things I wanted to have on my new device that I couldn’t get in the market on it.

Bejeweled 2

Yahoo Fantasy ’11 (Baseball)

Backed them up. Connected my HTC EVO to the computer as a disk drive found the .apk files in the Backup folder, copied to my computer, then I attached those files to an email and sent them to myself (email I use on the new device, of course) … then on my new device I got the email, opened and downloaded each .apk file.

Then I got Astro installed on my new device and navigated in that to the downloads folder and clicked on each file and that opened a pop up and I chose to Open App Manager and there I clicked Install.

Yahoo Fantasy ’11 worked right away just fine (as far as I could tell)

Bejeweled 2 didn’t work, had to download a bunch of files then hiccuped with an error telling me to go to … and that was a nothing to help message.

So I thought, and then re-connected my HTC EVO and looked for the folder I knew was on the card, the one with tons of files and pictures and came with no .nomedia file so pollutes your gallery (so one knows about the files and where the nomedia file needs to be put to fix that…)

I copied all of that stuff to my computer.

Then I connected my new device to my computer as a Disk Drive. I copied those files to the same location on the new device, there was a folder there with a “needtodownload” file in it. I deleted the file and copied the old files right there.

Disconnected and right there on my new device I touched Bejeweled 2 and … it opened and I played and when I was done my score went into a list of other high scores, scores I got on the HTC EVO before. :)

Wonderful! (note, you might have to check allowing installation of non-Market applications, if so, find that in “Settings:Applications: UNKNOWN SOURCES.

HTC EVO VIEW or HTC FLYER …. same deal. Do it.

I think the game played fine. Just the music wasn’t as “fluid” but not a problem at all, the game I played. (Which was only 1, ACTION, FWIW.)

Post Birthday 2011

I got my last birthday present yesterday. It was something that was ordered but couldn’t be delivered to the store until then. Unfortunately my husband decided to make it a mystery gift, wouldn’t tell me what it was, had nothing but a mystery coupon about it in my card … so nothing to “open” or make it a surprise that was a good thing.

For me I DO NOT like strung out things, leading on, shocking me on purpose, etc.

I like a good surprise, a pleasant surprise, but not one that is hinted at, teased, dragged out.

I could recount many stories of these sorts of things, with a couple being big time bad things in how they make me feel, whether good or bad on the other side. No bad surprise is a good thing, and it’s usually, IRL something that happens all of the sudden … well, guess what? Good surprises are like that too, or should be. Otherwise they are not surprises, but something expected, whether or not it’s a totally known entity.

The way my personality is, I’m not going to live up to a gifters expectation in how I react when some drawn out thing finally culminates…

…Which happened yesterday. I got an HTC EVO View 4G tablet. I love it. Don’t expect a video of my reaction, or a recounting of how excited I was. I wasn’t. It was just “time for it” and a “thank you very much, leave me alone, get on with it, let me leave with it” kind of thing.

For me, receiving gifts is my main “love language” — packaging is important. Unveiling important. That means, good gift (great!) but it’s not like a giant greatly wrapped with pretty paper and bow box to open, if so, then, it’s this: “thanks”

If it’s presented wonderfully, with a lovely thing to open to take out said good gift, :”AWESOME!” “Thank you!!!” etc.

My emotive external-ness is dependent on the process, or lack thereof, depending on circumstances. Up to birthday, expectation, secrets, air ripe with promise, just like Christmas … that’s OK. Day of, lovely pkg to unwrap is phenomenal.

I just don’t wish to go into the other versions of this, the negative ones.

I think my husband would like the lead-on’s for his own-self –so in the coming days I’ll try that and see if he likes it. Well, maybe. I mean, it’s not a strongsuit of mine. His birthday is over a week past, so …it’s not an easy task.

I mean planning and making it a thing to bring life to a beast of an expectation on one side or the other … but string it along … something mean on the end, or something good, doesn’t matter. It all FEELS the same. At least to me it does.

OK, back in the days of yore I was about 8 or 9 and it was Christmas morning. My Dad was a prankster a-times, and this morning he used that ability quite meanly. He was the distributor of gifts. So he picked up one and tossed it to a sister of mine (who was in on it) and she didn’t catch it, but let it fall. “Crash” They made a big deal out of it and blah, blah, blah on it went until they gave it to me, shaking it well beforehand, so that when I opened it up there was a dust/dirt cloud when I opened it, broken glass … it was a canister, with a special label made for it stating “Murphy’s Soup” … which was a horrible name they called me sometimes (my name was “Mary Sue” back then, so they thought it funny, me being the youngest, the brunt of every joke, awful.)

It was a devistating time for me. I lost faith in family for sure at that point.

Years later, reading about Love Languages, I understood myself much better by then and that information helped me even more … things like what happened at that young Christmas are not forgettable, but put away-able. They haunt me, but only because they were horrible, intentional, and didn’t shape my “receiving gifts” love language, only accent to me how real it was and still is, never changing, always the same. I appreciate beauty and decency. Gifts are that.

Sarcasm and such is for other times. Amen.

So … I do like my gift this year, I wanted it anyhow, it was a known entity to me and something I know he knew I knew about. I guessed it was what was what. But never said what I really thought. I wish I had forced the issue on my birthday, then it’d be a glad thing instead of something that just kept going trying to fool me to the end. I am not ranting or complaining, only stating the status of my birthday, the status of my feelings, the status of which takes more than 140 characters to say. It is nothing more than a Status though. Plain and simple.

New look

I was trying to get a new look going with my blog here, and not liking anything … It’s near impossible to get the thing I was going for working, so I scaled back and thought and now I like it OK.

No photo at the top. No grunge paper look background.

Now it’s all linen.

My favorite basic blue’s and a little of the grunge look in the blog title (looks kind of like a grungy thicker, FWIW). I also made a ribbon & flower graphic in Photoshop Elements, used some of the built-in images for those, but changed them drastically with texture layers, color-fill layers, opacity changes … bevels, shadows, etc.

I put a groove border around the #Page part of the css file for this theme. That made it all come together nicely.

As nice as it looks on my laptop display, I looked at it on my old desktop that is connected to a Vizio TV … and it doesn’t look very nice … The button on the flower looks stand out by itself blue (more than it does on the laptop) the header blue linen is drab, the background linen is more gray than the denim blue it looks on my laptop. So … sorry for anyone else who has a terrible view of my design. I’m not sure what’s going on ’cause I used web safe colors, and those are jpgs as well. Also, the header is one jpg. All parts together look awesome in photoshop, and as the jpg generated for the header that I upload. Looks good on my laptop computer display online in Firefox 5. Looks the same in Chrome. The bad view is the Vizio VGA mode … no doubt, so I hope none of you have horrible monitor settings/displays …

The thing about that button center of the flower, it looks alright with the header on my laptop, but on the Vizio it has totally different property looks. It looks even brighter and the header itself even duller. The Text all looks the same on both. The Ribbon too. The flower mostly. It’s the button and the blue linen background of the header and the background of the whole page that are all wrong on the Vizio connected to my old desktop computer.

I do know that the other differences could be in the computer’s graphics, so in a minute or two I’ll check the old laptop that’s running Ubuntu to see what’s what on THAT machine with this design.

— It looked same on the old laptop as on my laptop, so it’s Vizio overall, but the other thing is, I AM going to change it again, just tweak things, get rid of that flower, for one …

——————–

This morning (Thursday) I finished the new flower thing, and changed the blue’s of the header and the background and some things about the text. Looks more vibrant, at least, without the scary pink flower it’s better. We’ll see if it’s final, for now.

–further update … looks much better all around everywhere.
