I was invited to the Starhawk Private Beta in 2011, thus automatically included in the Starhawk Public Beta right away, though I’d have been anyhow since I’m PS Plus. One of my children had gotten an invite to Starhawk Private Beta also, so he’s in with the Public Beta too.

No other family members have been able to play it yet. Still another month before it’s truly open to the public without invite. FWIW that’s fine with me

There are troubles in our house about where the PS3′s are and who can play what, or when. There are obliging rules that just are common sense, ask or tell intentions, or ask or something else. Like, I have the 2nd PS3 in my craftroom/office with my Playstation Monitor. Makes sense, but it doesn’t make sense for someone to go in there and play Warhawk, go in there and shut the door, and not tell anyone that they are there. Then I go there to either play Starhawk, clean up, organize, or craft, and when I open the door expecting a dark room with no one in it, I get the shock of my life (every time it happens!)

It’s a small room, quite small. Not a room for someone to stand there playing a game and someone else doing crafting or organizing, I’ve tried it before, it’s just not something that works. It’s a one-person space, the way the electricity and internet are in the room it’s the only place to put the Monitor, my desk, ps3 is right there in the corner at the front where the door is. There’s a big table behind with a lot of my craft stuff on it, and then a big cabinet full of my other craft stuff, a file cabinet with the printer on top. That’s it, just crammed full. With me in it, it is comfortable. Some other people are way bigger.

All I ask is let intentions be known, ask for my preference. I’d say, please take the PS3 upstairs for awhile. Just turn it off, unplug it and move it up, then move it back. Please.

Or … kick them off the big TV in the living room.

So it goes, I didn’t get to play much Starhawk in December 2011. It just didn’t work out. I prefer playing with someone in my house, either Starhawk or Warhawk. So I just can’t play with my son if the PS3 is being used by someone else in my office. Or if it was out of my office.

I’ve told my son that I’d prefer they only play with the livingroom PS3 would be when their Dad isn’t home, or in the afternoons when he’s working IF they get the school work done. Otherwise they can use their handhelds if they must game. Leave the livingroom for their Dad.

I want to play Starhawk more. I’ve actually considered getting the PS3 #2 and the monitor into the livingroom so we can all play together, then putting it back down again. A pain, but not such a pain as having to yell up and down to each other. Also, it’s just part and parcel with my other idea, get the PS3 out of my office and bring it to my bedroom if you must play Warhawk on one of the smaller screens.

Why do I want the PS3 in my office? I have a place for it, it goes nicely with the PS Monitor, I can watch 3D movies there, invite my children to view one of the movies when I want to. I only have 1 pr. of 3D glasses. With how often I can use the 3D features, or 2D gaming, it makes sense to have it in my room. But it makes sense then to move it temporarily upstairs when Daddy doesn’t want to game in the livingroom.

OK, thanks. Anyhow, I like Starhawk, but would like to play it more, I have yet to even ever get into a Hawk. I never was comfortable in Warhawk flying, and still am not. I like ground combat just fine, and have much room for improvement. I only get better with more practice. Plus now my daughter picked out Tron Evolution as a game for me today when they were at GameStop looking for a DS and PSP game, and got 1 free if they bought 2. That’s a 3D game, so I’d like to be able to use that, watch the movie again, play the 3D game that came with the monitor(Motorstorm …), play Resistance 3 … lots and lots of gaming I could do there, plus Bejeweled 3 which I got for Christmas and haven’t played yet. And, there are other games and movies. I have a traveling salesguy husband. So my office is a haven for crafting, movies, and gaming.

The PS3 is a slim one and is easily moved to another location for sometimes if wanted. My position is viewed as selfish. Well, it might just be that, but it’s the only place that is mine, and I’d be fine sharing the PS3 the way I note above, I am jealous for my space, that’s a given that no one can understand if they don’t get it. I mean getting it would be understanding and understanding only comes when … ah, well, not worth saying anymore.

I just want to play and get leveled up and watch and do some more. I’ve given up having the PS3 in the bedroom until we get a 3rd. That means no discs to watch at night in bed. That’s OK. I’d bring up the PS3 if I want it, but I hate gaming in there. Have always hated it. It’s not my thing. He’s loved it. So it’s a compromise, he can use it there in the bedroom, I’d prefer it’s home base to be in my office. If it’s that big of a deal, then don’t use it. Or ask ME to move it for the time and move it back again. You don’t have to move it, just ask me to do it.

Starhawk is cool anyhow. It’s gonna be way better when it comes out as a full game. I don’t know if we’ll be able to get it right away, or how many copies we’ll be able to get. We need a 3rd PS3, it’s not just a game thing, it’s a wonderful Blu-ray player. So it’s not my place to make a decision, I don’t make any money. I’m a nobody. FWIW

Thursday night was the Grand Opening for our local theatre. It’s something I’ve wished for, a long time, and that wish was granted rather close to home. Just a few miles away, there’s a brand new Carmike theatre, and it’s really nice.

We usually drive over 20 miles to get to a shopping area that has theatre and such. Carmike is cheaper and being so close now, wow, so much “cheaper” to see movies on the big screen.

Opening night they had a slew of “old” movies to choose from for $1 each. We saw The Three Musketeers (2011) and it was really good! The sound was good and the picture good, screen quite large (compared to most theatres around, regular screens, that is) and it was all better than good, it was as good as it can get.

The movie itself we really enjoyed, the voices, sounds, music all came through awesomely, gorgeous music, and the entire film was engaging and quite fun. It’s something the “critics” don’t like. Well, it was good, the twist was fine, it wasn’t something to complain about.

I look forward to owning it on Blu-ray.

Friday (yesterday) my hubby & I did some errands, and saw another movie. I wanted to see Mission Impossible in IMAX, so we did that at our “other” movie place. It was really awesome! Glad we got to see it in IMAX.

Our local theatre went to “regular programming” on Friday. We are going to see Sherlock Holmes later today (Saturday) — something we almost were going to see on Christmas Day, but with everything the way it went, we didn’t. Local theatre was gonna open in the Fall of 2011, but it didn’t until just the other day. We had started a tradition (most years) of going to an afternoon movie on Christmas Day. Spending too much on presents, we decided not to do it this year, plus the allure of the local theatre, 5 minutes away, not being there but which was going to be (so we thought all year [2011] long.)

There are a lot of movies coming out that we’d like to see. Having a theatre close is good. Not such a bad thing for us, close to home, no long drive to and from. Though next week Underworld comes out, and IMAX is the place for it. It’s just the way it is.

I love that IMAX screen, and I do like a theatre that has regular large screens, and good sound, loud but not distorted, well placed, well done. Carmike has done that nearby, haven’t seen BigD yet, but we will. So, then I can compare that to the IMAX theatre I know.

I knew about The Thing but never had seen any of the movies until recently. Since The Thing (2011) prequel was coming out, in the mass of movie channels on DirecTV one was showing the 1982 movie in HD. So I recorded it and watched it on the bigger widescreen TV at night a couple of weeks ago, with my 15 year old boy.

It was good.

So yesterday we finally got to the theatre to see the new movie. (One thing about The Thing, we were going to go to a Regal theatre but with the movie only out for 2-weeks that very day, it wasn’t in their listings at all for Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues, that’s when I quit looking at their listings.) We saw it at AMC and I wasn’t too thrilled with having to do that because some of the movies we’ve seen have been there of late and not big enough screens and not loud enough (aka Transformers: Dark of the Moon) was terrible compared to what it could have been.

So we get to the theatre, walk into the correct movie bay, and Wow! The screen is way bigger than what they showed Transformers on on July 18th! Plus it was LOUD! Awesome, wonderful!

It was me and my son, plus another older couple. That’s who saw it. On Friday, October 28th. At that late morning $6 showing of The Thing 2011. It’s a great prequel, whoever thinks something else is just plainly not a sci-fi/action/horror fan and that’s fine.

Not just being a great prequel, it stands alone, AND firmly, completely, TOTALLY ties itself to the previous movie wonderfully. So freaking AWESOME!

Loved it. Love it. Love it. Love The Thing (though don’t want “THE THING” to come to my house, except for on Blu-Ray.)

Happy Labor Day!

We (me and three of my children) went to see Transformers: Dark of the Moon in 3D IMAX on Saturday night. We saw the movie in Real 3D on my birthday in mid-July. Our area IMAX theatre had already kicked T3 out of IMAX for Harry Potty … which really ticked us off. Not 1 single showing of T3 at that time plus since, until I checked again on Saturday and freaked out shouting about it.

It was awesome in IMAX. Detail popped so much and the sound was better. The theatre has or had added 7pm and 10:20pm showings of T3 in 3D IMAX with the seats being filled with HPotty fans all day long otherwise.

I got to use up my vouchers from December, when I went to see Tron:Legacy in IMAX 3D with one of my children. The equipment was out of sync and they canceled the show after a few tries to get it to re-sync. We got 3 vouchers ’cause the lady giving them out saw we ordered from Fandango. I wasn’t about to argue about that! A full price IMAX ticket, a child price IMAX ticket, and from that we got 3 full IMAX tickets for the future. We didn’t get to see that IMAX showing of Tron:Legacy, but did see it in Real 3D a short time after that, free (they let us all do that if we wanted, plus still get the vouchers) I’d seen it twice in IMAX already, at least.

So this T3 was the first chance at seeing something we wanted in IMAX since December. We did want to see Cowboys & Aliens, but they weren’t showing that anywhere in the US that I could find, which really pissed me off too.

Anyhow, there are several movies from earlier this year to now that I wanted to see, and never did, or did see and would like a Blu-Ray of them. I’m seeing more upcoming that I want to see as well. It does look like there will be a Christmas Movie for us this year. Finally! Something we will WANT TO SEE and don’t have to regret it (like Narnia last year.)

In the last few months (I need to research this and input the actual date, it was in 2010) we got a new TV, eventually slated for the kitchen, but put into immediate use in the master bedroom replacing the finally dead Emprex piece of junk. It quit turning on via the button on the frame, then wouldn’t turn on with the remote unless first unplugged then plugged back in, then it quit turning on no matter what. Which was all fine with me as it was a 720p HDMI TV with no HDMI plugged into it, and more than half the screen gone with white or black lines or blanked out. I’d shrunk the picture to be just the middle of the screen, a traditional square tv image, in other words, but the lines eventually started on the right side and grew and grew. It was a TV and is still one that might have/or will be able to be fixed but it’s one that I wouldn’t care to have fixed at all, so it’s in the garage until we figure out where to bring it.

The TV we did get is a lovely Vizio 23″ Razor – VM230VXT — true 1080 HDMI LED (mercury free!) with flat glass edge to edge (no “frame”) and touch sensing controls on the bottom left of the screen (on/off volume, menu, etc.) and also ambient light sensing for better picture in different lighting scenarios.

Eventually we’ll get a new TV for the living area and retire the current tv there to the master bedroom, a 37″ Vizio 1080 HD tv.

We’d like to get a 42″ Vizio 3D HD tv … that is what we are considering for later this year.

The other main thing is DirecTV. We are still getting standard signal from them, utilizing our older DirecTivo DVR’s, which we know we would prefer over the newer DirecTV DVR’s … but haven’t jumped to HD with them yet because of not knowing what kind of HD DVR they have that we’d want, waiting for DirecTivoHD to come first to make a decision, so far nothing going on except for possible boxes like that coming that will be good or will be not so good, but no actual boxes.

I’d do more research right now, but Directv.com isn’t letting me login or get anywhere. Click on anything and it’s like the stone age. Nothing changes, only semi-freezes. Awful.

My husband and I saw Alice in Wonderland (2010) in IMAX 3D on opening day, March 5, 2010. It was a very good movie, visually appealing and the story flowed well. I’m looking forward to seeing it again, with my children this next time.

I know I’ve seen 3D something before, but I can’t recall exactly what/when. This was my first REAL Modern (or Post-Modern, what-ever) 3D experience. I love IMAX movies. Put the 2 things together, it’s better than ever.

My hubby just looked up to see if tickets could be had for a showing today where we would go. Sold Out.

I bought my tickets for Opening Day 4:20pm showing via my Palm Pre (webOS) Fandango App on Tuesday, March 2, 2010.

The movie is as dark as the Alice story actually is. It’s rated PG and suitable for most children, I’d venture to guess.

The Alice character was well played, I had imagined a rounder-eyed Alice (not the Disney animated one, I’ve actually never seen that movie en-total.) but was happy with Disney’s choice of Mia. I especially applaud her curly hair through the movie:)

Today is the day Alice in Wonderland opens in theatres. My husband and I will be seeing the IMAX 3D version later this afternoon. I’m excited. He could care pretty much less.

The day before yesterday we were out getting some shopping done and ended up at the mall. We went into the Disney store and I figured at that point (not before) that they’d have some stuff related to the new movie. Hardly. Yes they had some things, but not much, considering. I got a re-usable shopping bag and a set of 4 pins. Sounds so exciting, doesn’t it? Well, it’s not, but it IS nicer than looking at my Publix bags (referring to the Alice in Wonderland shopping bag).

I’m looking forward to seeing the movie later. I bought the tickets on my Palm Pre (webOS 1.4) with the Fandango app earlier this week.

My Sony Handycam that I got for Christmas ’08 is in for service @BestBuy due to Baby Q pulling it down off the shelf it was charging on near the end of last week. It still works fine, but the case is crushed on the right side and it’s askew at the top seams, so I wanted it fixed before something worse happened to it. We have a Black Tie 4-year-warranty on it.

We brought it in on Friday, and have an estimated date of June 11 for it’s return. That’s a hard wait for me, I’ve grown so attached to it.

Last night we went to Blockbuster (something we don’t often do anymore) and rented a bunch of DVD’s. One of them was the newest Die Hard … Live Free or Die Hard. We hadn’t seen it yet.

We have seen the first three Die Hard movies several times. We are the kind of folk that actually like this genre flick. So we put the DVD in last night and cranked the speakers and had a very enjoyable … however long it was. We both agree, the new Die Hard fits in and works, it has the hard hitting violence that is met with the grumpy John M. doing what he does best, doing what he has to do. With eye rolling sarcasm and good humour, getting the young guy through the day alive, and finding that the young computer-savvy-geek isn’t as wimpy as they both had thought.

It is something that is different from the earlier incarnations of Die Hard, it’s a successful addendum with what could have been a total flop, but it really honed in on what would work, a cyber story of what could be devastating to a society –with our dependence on computers for so much of our daily living needs– and it boils down to the same old angst … it’s not about that, not really, nope, the same old green greed is behind it all.

Now bothering me is the villain in the movie. I’ve seen him in something before, but haven’t seen anything else that he has credits in. On a wikipedia page though he is said to have had an uncredited role in Wedding Crashers. We saw that on DVD when it came out. It was a mess of a movie, but maybe that’s where I remember him from. I don’t know for sure, and have no desire to see that movie again to figure it out for myself. Anyway, he was a good villain for McClain to go after. It worked.

The special effects were good, many things too fantastic/fake to be believed, but that’s the fun of the fantastic Die Hard movies.
