I had it back when I first got a PSP (2007) I didn’t play it much at all, but would have, and then lost the case I had several UMD’s in, and it was one of them.

Recently my DH was out-of-town and went to a used book store, but it wasn’t only books, it also had movies and games … so he looked around and read some of the games names to me over the phone. I asked him to get me the Golden Compass again, since it was $6 and I don’t like a lot of games out there, and at least it’s from a storyline that I can tolerate (read the books, didn’t see the movie.)

I put the UMD of the game into my PSP a little while ago for the first time since DH brought it home. I played for a long while, it seemed, and then I was tired of it. I progressed further than I remembered I had before, and still, no save point. Just checkpoint after checkpoint, after checkpoint, after checkpoint …

I looked at the Pause menu, nothing about “save” … so I quit, just so desperate to stop, not wanting to continue, but wanting to next time just start where I left off.

I didn’t plan on it, but after a minute decided to start the game just to see if I could find a saved point or if it continued or whatever. It didn’t continue, no saved points. I didn’t want to play again, but then decided to keep playing since I’d just played it I knew what to expect and figured I’d get through that fast enough, and hopefully it would be not too far after that at which a destination to save (or was auto-saved) would occur.

Ha ha ha.

I was way further, still nothing saved, and then phlaaattt! My PSP shut down (out of power) oops! I got my power cord, and that’s that. I’m charging, but the game was off. Totally different from other games I’ve played. I just didn’t have the heart to see what happened if I started the UMD of Golden Compass again.

So that’s that. Maybe I’ll feel like trying again some other time, but at this point. No. Not any time soon.

I know, it’s a dumb game.
