It wasn’t a fun day for me, when I turned 39. We had been in Charleston, SC over the weekend prior to my Monday July birthday, and something there didn’t sit right with me and I got progressively sicker from Saturday night to Sunday night when I finally had no choice but to get it out of me. It was really hot and humid in Charleston, that is enough to make me ill if I move about too much, but couple that with a probably bad hotdog, and forget it. I hardly ever eat hotdogs, those unreputable creatures, but they becon me to eat of them from time to time. I will never again eat on the road though, only partake of doggies at home boughten from a decent company, like something that Whole Foods Market would sell, and grilled or fried or baked by my own self.

We went to a baseball game that Saturday night, the Charleston Riverdogs lost, I guess. I was in misery with a cranky headache and just plain too sensitive to all the noise, I just wanted to go lie down. So we finally left in the bottom of the 8th inning, or maybe it was the top, I don’t recall exactly. It wasn’t too soon for me though!

We were going to leave on Sunday and drive home. Our 4-year-old was begging to go to the beach the whole little trip, and Daddy obliged him after we packed up and checked-out of the hotel. We drove over the new bridge in Charleston, over to Mt. Pleasant, I managed to take a series of photos as we drove over, I’d regrouped enough over night lying in that too-soft-bed. Anyhow, we got to the fort on the beach, across the water from Fort Sumpter. We got out and looked at some of the canons on display and child-no.-three forced us to walk the plank. It felt like that to me. I was able to drag myself to the end of it, it was a long exanse of walkway, then grass, then sand then the beach itself and down to the water … I got halfway over the beach and said, “This is as far as I’m going”. I turned around and looked around, and felt horrible, it was too hot and my guts were churning. I took some pictures and then hauled myself off the beach and took a straight walk of my own creation to the van.

As we drove away a bit later I was glad to be on the road to home, but knew it’d take longer than I had inside me. I managed to live through it though, resting my forhead on the A/C vent letting it blow me cold. It wasn’t that cold though, our van A/C need’s recharged badly. It was just cold enough right at the outlet of the source, to almost create a numbing cocoon for my head. Oh it ached and pained, I did feel migrainey, but it wasn’t that, not a migraine, it was food poisoning/heat induction to sickness from the past two days.

It’s gross, but I had no appetite but sort of wanted to eat, but was replused by anything I saw in reality that I could really eat. I tried to eat something, but couldn’t after two small bites. I had a drink and that I couldn’t drink much of. I was <burping> and starting to get heartburnish feelings … and DH had Tums in the van, so I started with one, then another, then another, over the drive home. It calmed the storm, but only made it worse for later. I wish I’d just given in and threw up in a rest room on the way home. As it was, my head abated the last hour or so of the ride home and I got home and just laid in bed and comiserated with myself. It was hot at home, and I was more miserable in my middle than I’d been before, and then it got dark out and I couldn’t sleep, just fell into weird almost sleeps, and had to move around and moan. Finally I had a coughing bout from a sinus drainage in my throat and had to high-tail-it to the toilet. Ah, that felt better. I was still miserable, but oh so much better. So it took most of the next day before I felt any energy in my bones. It cleared up nicely the day after that.

The energyless day was my birthday. Miserable day. My last birthday in my 30’s and I felt like old junk all day. That’s the way it goes sometimes.

DH got me a couple of fireworks things on the way home the day before. I’ve always wanted fireworks on my birthday. He’s never let me get any at all, just sparklers for the kids the last couple of years. So finally he gets me some decent firecrackers and a few other weird gizmo things, and I couldn’t care less to light them up.

Since then it’s been rainy stormy off and on. I like doing firework stuff, even just the crackly bang stuff, at dark. Stormy wet ain’t the time for good blow up stuff. So they sit in the paper bag still, awaiting the outdoors lighting time. One of these days …

So I’m now 39 and DH is now 40. It goes so fast. </burping>

DH and I are both a year older now. It wasn’t a fun day for me, when I turned 39.
