It’s supposedly 37 degrees with a “feels like” temp of 22 degrees right now. It’s a blustery day, the storm that came through last night left it quite chilly overnight, and this morning was chillier than it has been in the early morning, with little change in the temps, the wind just keeping it feeling much worse, though the current 37 degree reading from accuweather is colder than it was earlier, 38 to 41 over the course of the morning.

I started a fire this afternoon, in the fireplace. I didn’t want to have to, didn’t HAVE to, but it was nicer to actually have a fire going than not. The wood we have this year is tough to burn, very moist even though it’s supposed to be very seasoned and looks it to the eye and feel … it’s intensive to keep it going though, wood sizzles and steams and peeters out. So bark and little tiny broken off strands are very important to have in abundance, as well as lots of newspaper to “support the enthusiasm” of the fire to flame up and eat the wood. Sigh.

I love making fires, but it’s nicer with wood that burns steadily, is maintenanceable in a relaxed manner, will smolder and burn if you forget it for an hour or two, but stay hot and gladly accept new wood with grand enthusiasm.

Not this wood. It’s spoiled rotten and I am glad in SOME ways that we haven’t needed as many fires this Winter so far compared to others, even with the ALLERGIES mildness brings along.

Well, we have Winter for one day.
