That meant nothing to anyone back then, it wasn’t curly. Or was it. Of course it was. I didn’t find out myself how true it was until I was in my teens. I needed help with it, gel.

I have thick hair, but no I do not. I have a lot of hair and it plumps up with humidity and slims down when there isn’t much.

So through the years I added different gels. For most of that time I shampooed and conditioned every few days at the most. I also employ that purple can of Aqua-Net to freeze my curls in place, it actually worked out, but time goes on and I didn’t want to use spray cans of hairspray and finding cheap and good gel just wasn’t easy and never improved.

Finding out about Curly Girl stuff, my sister gave me a book. It wasn’t revolutionary, it was a friendly reminder that it would take effort to make my hair work for me.

Four babies to raise, I neglected my curly self into elastic hair bands. Then when they were older I did try to make it all nicer, grew out bangs, and all, but then that elastic idea came out again, and it was long enough to self knot in a pinch and that was status quo for a long time.

This past year I have hated my hair. Patches of white on that delicate forehead area that for me always turned blonde in the sun. I hated it, my Red/Brown Metallic hair was going snowy.

No thank you. Hello Henna. I have one Henna application behind me. Another coming up this next week. To get the things I missed or need to treat more, and any roots that have grown.

It’s really hard to put my life of curly hair into an article like this and do it justice. I had better times with my hair than just elastics and knots these past many years. Just couldn’t be faithful to having it hang out all the time.

One of things that is a no-no for me is the shampoo. I only use it if I do a super deep conditioning that has to be shampooed, else have greasy looking hair. Ick. That feels bad.

I made one yesterday:

Curly Hair Deep Conditioning Treatment

1 Tbsp Shea Butter

2 Tbsp Coconut Oil

1 Tbsp Almond Oil

1 Tbsp Honey

3 drops Lavender Essential Oil

3 Tbsp Coconut Milk

Melt Shea Butter and Coconut Oil in a bowl (double boiler) then remove bowl from water.

Allow to cool, then add Almond Oil, Honey, and Lavendar Essential Oil and whisk well. Once the mixture is cool enough whip it as it thickens. Add the Coconut Milk and whip again.

Use in hair as a deep conditioner. Allow to stay on for an hour or longer. Rinse out, wash hair and rinse well.

My hair is shiny and soft and working out without any gel. I’m mostly doing this to prep for Henna, well, would be doing it just like this anyhow. It’s lovely.

My hair is white girl curly delicate stuff.

And I also have bangs again. Sick of the dragging down sides. I want to feel like me again. 🙂 This means conditioning without a bottle of stuff, getting into having to make something deep or light on every occasion.

I always had wavy hair as a kid.
