We had Summer all over again last week. Now it’s back to Autumn weather, with the “close to Winter” stuff happening, nearly right on time. Nov 15th is the normal “first freeze” date for this area of the South.

Puts one in the mood for a fire in the fireplace, and Thanksgiving being close too.

Another event for our family is our daughter’s birthday on the 25th. Her day of birth was the evening before Thanksgiving. Her first birthday was on Thanksgiving day. This year is her 5th birthday, and finally Thanksgiving is removed enough to be an alright thing, two years in a row. Next year it’s right back on Thanksgiving Day again, and the next year just the day after.

I’ve always struggled with having birthdays celebrated on days other than the actual commemorated day. So having two celebrations on the same day, I always tried to distinguish between them, Victoria’s birthday in the late afternoon and evening, and Thanksgiving Dinner early in the day, for instance.

That won’t hold water next year, she’ll be a six year old, and I know it won’t work. So, basically, I have to figure out how to do it. The other compounding factor is that Christmas is exactly one month after her birthday.

To all the families that celebrate Christmas, and have family birthdays [particularly young children] a month before to a month after Dec. 25, I offer you my sympathies.

Well, it’s Nov 13th, getting dark early, colder already right now than it’s been lately, it’s a hot cocoa night. Snuggle under the covers. Movie, popcorn. Sounds good. Oh, and my Jane Austen to read. I had put it down for awhile, and finally picked it up again the other day. I’m forcing myself now not just to “sit and read” all day. 🙂

We have our first forecasted freeze warning for the season tonight.
