Samsung S3 Tab Android 9

Post Published:

When my tablet, Samsung S3 Tab, upgraded to Android Pie I was rather ambivalent about it. I had to wipe (Factory Reset) my Note8 phone in order to make things work better on it when upgraded earlier.

With Android 9 my tablet was so sluggish. Closing apps wasn’t fast. It was really annoying, the capacitive buttons … so bright and the app didn’t always minimize back and forth the fight would go. The slowness means it was hard to close an app. My touch would make it min. after a bit, but then re-big it … one touch. Ouch.

Restarting my tablet never improved any of my problems.

What other problems? Wi-Fi. Why, why, why is there not a setting for turning it off in sleep now! My battery life went plummeting down. How many times the tablet was dead since Android 9 installed when I went to use it.

I have to turn Wi-Fi off on purpose. It means thinking about it everytime or else …

So with the wi-fi and battery issues, and the sluggishness in general, I finally bit the bullet yesterday and went to Factory Reset my tablet via settings. Not good.

Samsung required to me to sign-in to backup stuff. I didn’t even have the active anymore. Before Android 9, I changed my password to do something with it on my phone. I didn’t have the different password handy to input it on my tablet.

I ended up resetting the password … ah that’s nice. It didn’t matter. Samsung wouldn’t log me in … Re-set didn’t work, endless log-in loop … ugh.

Hold down vol and home button, then press power … to get into Recovery. I did it right, know about doing it correctly, my tablet wasn’t functioning very well. After about 45 minutes of fooling around with all of this, it finally was in Recovery, and wiping it was do-able, but then I couldn’t Re-start, it mucked up, Oh the misery, and then magically the Restart was suddenly there.

Once the tablet booted in … quite a bit of waiting with that ultra bright SAMSUNG in the middle of the tablet, holy moly. Open anything, min, close, quick as it can be. The sluggishness is gone.

I didn’t add any accounts until I got settings how I wanted. I added my Google account, let it update apps that were already on the tablet, then downloaded only the few I wanted at the time. Still working great after that.

The trouble with the battery level is wi-fi and sleep. I don’t know yet how it’ll work out. As it goes, before I would charge it in the morning, it would sit all day, with nothing open, and at night it would be 100% still. That was Android 8. After Pie, I would do the same, and find it at 2% at night. What? Not every day. It never made complete sense.

The thing about battery is adaptive battery. No way it was working for me. Reformatting my tablet was my only hope. It sorted out the sluggishness and hopefully it will make everything work out, turning off my wifi, or figuring out why I hit airplane mode and shut the cover and don’t move my tablet for hours, and eventually it’ll know enough to do that for me. I don’t see it doing exactly that, but turning off wi-fi, yeah, it SHOULD.

I’m just really unhappy with no toggle setting to keep wi-fi on during sleep.

And now I’m getting that notification on my Note8 to sign-in to Samsung. Sigh.
