I am sorry to whomever in the government think this was a good idea to change 7b to 8a.
I don’t see it as real. Nope.
If anything all along we were 7a/7b kind of thing, but not hedging towards 8 at all.
It’s garbage, 8 was southern Georgia. It’s very hot there. We are not 8, no freaking way.
Here we get a Winter, and Spring, and Summer and Autumn.
At any rate, using the USDA site’s map … they say we live in 8b. Hahahaha
I can grow herbs, some of them over winter fine, sometimes they don’t. Most things that can grow in colder climes grow for me fine.
Last year it was cold early, cold enough for several days in October to use the fireplace in our house. This hadn’t happened before. We had first freeze in October in 2022. Usually it was Nov 15th, pretty much right about then.
This year 2023 October 31st 32 degrees for a low. 29 degrees the next day. And the day after that.
November 2, 2023 1st fireplace use for the 2023/2024 winter season
My garden died back month ago now, the few perennial year long usuals doing ok, just you-know ok. All the other stuff is gangly and lots of dead branches, mint, and lemon balm, and bee balm.
2022 killed my rosemary that had gone on for at least 4 years.
2023 I got two new rosemary plants, so far they are still alive.
So it seem to me things are not as hot and colder earlier and colder overall. I don’t know what this world is coming to.
