Lately I’ve started looking into PSP homebrew. I hadn’t ever researched it, never wanting to hack my PSP, happy with it’s functionality. I was aware that custom firmwares existed, and that it was something I’d maybe want to do, but I did wait too long to fully take that to the level that would be pleasing. (My son also has a PSP 3001, and we have an older 2001 which was mine originally.)
The funny thing about it though is my PSP 3001 has updated to the newest firmware every time one is available just because having to install it in order to go to the PSN store. So when I got bit by the techno bug after the new year and started looking into it, it was amazing what I was finding. Thing moving so fast to get homebrew capabilities on my PSP 3001 (6.35 OFW) so much so now I just need 635Pro HEN, signed, in my games folder. Start that, and my PSP is 6.35 Pro, and can load homebrew, which now has me able to use PSP Filer, and I can rip my UMD’s and then play the games using Prometheus ISO Loader to start them.
Not every game is playable like that, once ripped. LoTR Tactics doesn’t work. Star Wars Battlefront II isn’t working for us either. R-Type Command does work using the N______ driver (not M33.)
I’ve also successfully ripped and played Loco Roco, Jeanne D’Arc, and Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands.
These are all UMD discs I own. I’m doing this as backup, and future proofing our game collection.
Sony has released 6.37 OFW recently. So IF we get anything on PSN we have to connect our PSP’s to the PS3 and transfer new content that way (really not that big a deal.) Why? Because using homebrew capability is more important than viewing PSN store on the PSP.
All 3 PSP’s in our house are on 6.35 OFW & can use 635Pro HEN. There are also many good homebrew games that are signed, which means you can download them to your PSP and just play them in OFW without loading HEN or anything. That is cool. All new in 2011.
