We got through Thanksgiving Day meal alright, but I was exhausted. I rested a bit, wanted to go to sleep but didn’t. Then we decided to go out and see a movie if we could find one we wanted to see.
We’d thought about Yours, Mine & Ours since hearing it was coming out as a re-make [we have the original on VHS and on DVD and love that movie, with Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda], but every time I or Dh have read anything about it we decide to incremant down seeing it — meaning, first place is Theatre, next down is Dollar-Theatre, next down is Rent-it, next down is wait-for-it-to-come-on-to-Stars (DirecTv), next down is to wait-for-it-to-come-on-to-a-national-or-cable-channel-as-broadcast …
We have gone from level One all the way down to the last level … with only a reserve in place for Dollar-Theatre IF a day seems worth throwing to the dogs this winter.
So that is what we decided yesterday. Then I looked up Zathura … and that is what we went to see last night. I loved it. The children did like it, but were scared at times and over-all they all three remebered the scary parts more than they overall movie … so they didn’t really like it. It wasn’t scary scary, only scary because much of the “scary” was seen as through the eyes of the 6-and-3-quarters-Year-Old boy.
I told the children, and know this is true, if they saw this movie at home (not the theatre), they’d have loved it.
It really was just an really intense movie. Really well done. I really liked it, and look forward to having it on DVD. I have not seen the book that it was based on, but just now have read a review of the book and will say that a movie being based on a 32-page book and turning out so well is great. Obviously in the movie the plot is a bit changed, the characters and house and all played up quite a bit no doubt, as would need to be done to make a major motion picture.
It’s a great example a good adaption, I guess, though I can’t truly say as I have NOT seen the book in person as of yet.
I’ll just say it works. It really and truly works, it’s an exciting adventure, this movie.
My children now are saying that they like it. It’s not as scary now, now that I have the website for the games linked off of the movie site open in IE (the site is NOT FF friendly 🙁 )
I see reason to update the idea of a movie as in Zathura … but for some others I do not, like the rage now to re-do so many old movies and make them “so now” and just throw the baby out with the bathwater.
