We bought a Leap Frog TAG Reading system for one of my boys in the past year. I haven’t connected it very often but when I did I really liked how it worked for parents. My boy that uses it is past the age that my first two children were already able to read by themselves, but he is an extrovert and into outside and physical things, so he’s different compared to them by spades. At any rate he’s more and more interested in reading things in the last couple of years, and the TAG system was OK to him at first, but it’s been a growing interest in the last few months.
We had gotten a few books and then the spelling board, and wild animal cards. I don’t have a color printer, just a laserjet black printer. This makes printouts of rewards quite bland compared to what the colored version is like. So between me and my TAG boy, it just wasn’t very “rewarding” to use the TAG with Connect to see the rewards & such. Last time I did use Connect was August 1, 2009. I re-printed all previous rewards and tried to make it that we’d color them with colored pencils, but that never happened (neither he nor I were motivated.)
So the other day we bought a new TAG book. I opened Connect the next morning and the software wanted to update and I couldn’t tell it “no” so when it was done I logged in, downloaded the audio for our new book. Then I went and got the actual TAG pen and connected it. Nothing happened. Nothing at all.
I tried every scenario to get it working. Still nothing.
I went so far to actually install Connect on two other computers that had never been attached to TAG at all. Nothing happened. Can’t set up a new account for a TAG. TAG not recognized at all.
So I have Connect with one child account on one computer, and Connect on two other computers with no child accounts.
The TAG works with books fine, but it’s locked into using only what was previously loaded onto it, and there is nothing we can do to get the rewards info downloaded, new book audio onto it, etc.
Frustrating.
