Micrathena Gracilis – Spiny-Bellied Orb Weaver

Post Published:

Spiny-Bellied Orb Weaver, Micrathena gracilis – this spider is on our porch … I’d never seen one until this Summer, in July 2017, this very one has stayed since showing up.

[There is an other Spiny Orb Weaver I’ve seen in Florida and here in mid-north-east Georgia, the Spiny-Back Orb Weaver, much more well known. (Smiley Face back … strange thing when seen for the first time, but kind of cute.) ]

Spiny-Bellied Orb Weaver, Micrathena gracilis – Midday picture, she’s a very odd spider.
Spiny-Bellied Orb Weaver, Micrathena gracilis – Basic shape of this spider is pyramid like. this silhouette shows how she likes hanging in her web.
Spiny-Bellied Orb Weaver, Micrathena gracilis – A later afternoon picture that shows her “colors” better.
Spiny-Bellied Orb Weaver, Micrathena gracilis, This photo is from July, you can see her disc shaped web nicely.
