Canon

I got a new camera for Christmas, a Canon Power Shot SX130 IS. I do like it, but need to work with it more to get better photos. Like other online, I do find the “auto” setting not for me.

The second thing that bugs me is their website for my product. I registered my camera on their site, and that gave me info on the Canon iMage Gateway, and so I connected to that … since my camera was eligible, though I wouldn’t be loading any pictures to it, necessarily, just wanted to see what stuff was there to support my camera and knowledge, easy find of accessories, downloads, etc.

But … that’s not the case at all. My Power Shot SX130 IS is eligible for the service, compatible, etc. It’s not in the “MY CAMERA” area at all. That was yesterday. Today I deleted my registration and re-registered it, starting from the “Canon iMage Gateway” page with me logged in. That didn’t get my Power Shot SX130 IS into my profile there either.

So I tried something stupid, I registered my old Digital Rebel … and voila! There my Rebel sits as my Primary camera in Canon iMage Gateway. Still no Power Shot showing up. Urg!

Third beef is that under My Camera Themes, you can’t download unless using IE. What an annoyance!

In any case, I do like the camera, the size, the feel of it is very natural for me. I love the zoom function, it is so natural, it’s second nature, and was from the get-go. I still have trouble with my Sony Handycam’s zoom thingie. FWIW.

I like the LCD display, very large for the camera size. I don’t particularly like the focus of the camera in many situations. I need to try P more. On my Rebel I used any of the settings with good results (well, still do, though I don’t use it as much since I got my HTC Evo, with an 8 megapixel camera. Now with a new compact digital 12 megapixels, my Rebel will sit more. It’s old, slow, 6 megapixels as well.

My dream camera is a Canon EOS 50D. Not so sold on the newer 60D yet. I’d love a higher end than either as well, but putting thing into persepective, the 50D would be fine for me, I don’t NEED a bigger camera, just would LIKE one. I could use a good SLR, really updated and fast.

I have an Eye-Fi card in my Power Shot camera. It works pretty well. I’ll be happier with it when I’m happier with the pictures I’m snapping.
