It’s been raining, again … we just continue getting more rain every few days, more off sometimes, then again it comes. We’ve had more rain this winter than we’ve had in “rainy” season sometimes the last whatever years. I mean, since we lived where we do, less than 10 years, we’ve had three or more years of drought, then that released sometime the last couple or so of years, and now this very mild winter we have had so much rain, so much that less than 1/2 an inch causes thick muddy spots where the grass is dormant or there was a thin spot even when it was growing, water stands in low spots, all day not sinking in much, and if it continues to rain it just gets soggier and soggier. It was raining yesterday and started the night before, I think, so then today it’s rained all day, not hard, just solid often, heavier, then solidly light continuous rain, slacking off for a time here and there, but coming back always. My boots sunk out when I fed the hens yesterday, my heels are about an inch-and-a-half to two inches in height, wide heels, and they totally sunk in the mud, and my sole went down too, but I jumped out to a clump of growing “grass” so as not to sink further. It’s like that all over, places of mud, clumps of dormant growth, and clumps of green growth, all in different states of under-water.
The yards are not level, so there are sinky spots and high spots and it’s scary to see the broad pools of water going right over high spots some parts of the day.
Tomorrow it is supposed to be sunny. I hope so. I hope it’ll dry off and get solid out there soon. I remember how dry it used to be, when it was too dry, and this is just the opposite. Too wet. The thing is, it’s winter and this is so very off. I really wonder if we’ll get a “winter” and what “Spring” will be like. Will we get the “normal” rain for Spring, and if so, will we see some true flooding for the first time ever for us, is my wonder.
