Pinwheel Decorations

Start with a 4×4 piece of cardstock, two-sided pretty cardstock.

Using a piece of cardstock from My Minds Eye, Lost & Found Christmas.

Back Side
Front Side

The front will be one of the design sides, the back will be the other. The front is the pinwheel design, the back is a square folded package in the middle that a ribbon or string can tie around to hang.

Punch Board with first edge lined up at 1 1/4″
Score only, no punching/
Scoring finished.
The Back, Score lines visible, you can see what will be cut off, and what will remain, what will fold, this design is better suited for the back.

Use an Envelope Punch Board to score at 1 1/4″ on each edge.  Fold all score lines. On each edge you’ll see a triangle on center. Cut these 4 triangles out. You’ll be left with the Pinwheel, a big Plus sign with pointy ends.

Folds all creased and inked, finding the triangles to cut is easiest this way. Cut off all the ink from each triangle, so that it’s on the triangle removed, not on the plus shape remaining.
Cutting the triangle out doesn’t have to be perfect. I like this project because it is simple and each little pinwheel decoration has it’s own quirky style, not going for exact sized replications one after the other.
The Plus is active!

Next you’ll be folding the Plus points over each score line. Once they are all folded over, flip the piece and fold each “leaf” up and tuck under around until you have the Pinwheel arranged nicely. A-times you may wish to trim a piece here and there to look better.

Turn the Plus over.
Start folding, just fold it and crease it down, doesn’t have to be scientific.
All the folds done.
Flip it over, then fold up each “wing”
The Pinwheel looks good! Let’s get a brad for it!
Tim Holtz long fastener, antique. Just pop it through the middle, light pressure should get it through, to hard and you’ll bend the prongs, depending on the weight of your paper/cardstock
The Front, so cute.
The Back, pretty for a back, so if it’s hanging it’s nice when moving around.

I prefer to ink all the edges as I’m scoring, cutting, folding. Choose a color that goes with your Front designed cardstock.

Sitting in the tree, you can see some others around it, on Jute string (simple loop tied around the back square, not permanently adhered, makes it nice for storage and using another time.)
