HP 1020 shared as printer on network

Post Published:

I was trying to share my HP 1020 over my big computer, which is always on. It’s a dumb printer just prints local.

On my laptop I could get into the share server but would get “Credentials Supplied Are Not Sufficient” when trying to use “connect”

Eventually I got it right

  1. Create a local user (lusrmgr.msc) name it something like “printer” and give it a password.
  2. Then in  Control Panel > User Accounts > choose Windows Credentials and add your share name (share server name) and the credentials for the printer user you created earlier.
  3. Restart the PC.
  4. On my laptop I logged into my main share server with the PRINTER credentials, there’s all the shared stuff, the HP 1020 is there. Right-click choose “connect” installs and voila, once a restart laptop I can use that printer if I’m on the network at home.

Anyone else in the house can also print to it.
