Failure to roast

Post Published:

I didn’t get my turkey’s roasted today. 🙁 I woke up with a migraine and struggled just getting a couple of pumpkin pies made this morning, and the migraine hung in there getting worse mid-day, so I ended up laying down for awhile, after the pies were out of the oven already for a bit. DH was out at the stores (bday prep) and the children were watching a show on the television, and I warned sternly and most particularly that they dared not touch the pies in any sort of way … they knew not to and I double warned them.

So I came down later after DH was home and sure enough, there was a finger mark in my big pie. Urgh. Little one said he didn’t do it, neither did either of the older two. Finally after asked if God had seen him do it, he answered “no”, then a few minutes later reversed his story. This little one loves to avoid saying the truth until the very last chance of twisting out of something is tried. 🙁

Later then after getting ready to go out, we had to do a few more things, I looked at the pies, going to get them in the refridgerator and holy cow there was a bigger mark in the pie. Before it was like a finger went onto the top and dug in a half-inch and pulled back two inches, now it was a four inch long deeper finger draggy mark … ooooooohhhhh, that little guy tried to deny this event being his very own action — but that wouldn’t fly with me or his Daddy.

It’s really sad for me, these pies are the prettiest I’ve seen in awhile, the top such a lovely shiny deep red-brown, I would have taken a picture of them. One is a small one, it’s alright, it’s one that Victoria helped make, in her own little pie dish, using her little rolling pin and pastry cutter to get the crust ready. She rolled out some after I showed her what to do, then I helped her finish that part and put the crust folded over into the dish and had her open it up the rest of the way, and showed her how to pat it down into place, and how to flute the edge, she did some of that. I mixed up the filling and put that in her shell and my big pie shell that I made.

I usually make two big pumpkin pies, but I had a can of pumpkin in the fridge that I used a cup of for bread last week, and therefore I used that to make the pies this morning, and will just make more pies later to go with the leftovers of Thanksgiving. [I love pumpkin pie!]

So tomorrow is the big day, and I’ll make the turkey’s first thing. The turkey’s are both over 12-lbs but under 13, I’d liked smaller ones, but I didn’t pick them out.

DH likes to watch football games all day on holidays like tomorrow. It’s annoying to me, that right during dinner time! Anyhow, I prefer listening to music to watching TV, and my music is right by the kitchen and so is the TV area. I got two CD’s today, and one comes with a DVD. Michael Buble “Come Fly With Me” as well as his Christmas EP “Let It Snow” … I’ve wanted to get some of his music for awhile now, and finally have it, and it’s nice to hear some traditional songs “standards” both regular and Christmas, done by a nice voice, a young contemporary. I’ll listen to those and some Handel and Vivaldi, Cinderella, Stryper, Red Letter Agent, Guardian, etc. tomorrow. Typical ecelctic mix for me.
