We are upgrading out Comcast Business Internet speed. In order to accomplish that they had to install a different modem on Monday.
Yes, the unloved CG3000CR modem. It’s not just a modem either. How the cable comes into our house I have it behind my desk in the basement. The old modem just spit out the internet to my routers 198.168 network no problem.
I have Emby Server on my main computer and it has to be accessible on my home network and remotely as well. It worked before.
With the new modem I sent the technician away with it functioning only on my computer plugged into the modem. My router had only IPV6 and didn’t distribute a working internet at all. It was a nightmare. After they left I had an even worse time, only google search would load on my modem connected pc, no links clicked ever loaded.
Our account won’t upgrade our speed until the modem is changed, and then not until they actually put the order in after the fact. I don’t know for certain what our account should have on it, but it was initially installed with a Static IP for 5 users. What that was there for, I don’t know, we aren’t and won’t be paying for that, just plain good internet is what we subscribe to.
I didn’t want to call them and run my hair through a tearing out machine. So I got a slim pen and reset it eventually.
I wasn’t able to get it working for my whole network, just passing the internet to my router (turning off DHCP and all the right things for Pseudo Bridge didn’t work before reset or after) so with not Static IP in it, reset, I have the basement all running out of the modem ports directly, and I had to change my router into an Access Point, then VOILA! Wifi devices had internet connectivity. Amazing! Emby worked.
Network is now 10.1.10. I don’t know what will happen when our account speed is finally changed (It’s Wednesday and it’s still not changed, I’m getting antsy for that speed upgrade.) I expect Comcast will change my setup and it’ll be broken again and I’ll have figure it out, again (the right way?)
As it is, remote access to Emby is now working. And our internal network is also normal again. I am the primary user of Emby. My family is resisting using it. Frustrating. I work hard to put it all together, our best stuff. Well I use it, and that is enough, I guess.
