What’s your focus?

So, what is a bouncing brain? In my case, a 2.3 on the scale, focusing is not the same for me as it is for most people. For the “most” part, normal people shift in and out of focusing on things at will. It’s like breathing to them. They know what it’s like for them, and that is that. Everyone has the same capability, right?

Oops, no, that’s not true! So then, is anyone that is different a “deviation”? A defective person? Some think so. They want to “fix” the mind that bounces around, to be like “them”. It’s fine to be “normal” and focus like a “normal” person if that is who you are. But what if you are different? That’s just it, it’s just a different way of looking at things, interacting with things, being. Today’s societies have exasperated many bouncing brains … fast moving, instant everything. These things are not the cause of differing attention spans … These fast ways are here because of technology. Technology is the thing, not the people who “don’t fit in” oft times.

Hyper-focus and Hypo-focus are the two key phases a 2.3 deals with. Either UP or DOWN. Sustained UP or sustained DOWN when something is highly interesting, or extremely uninsteresting, for example. How does this work out in a “school setting”? Hmmm. Often it’s not good. Are these people un-able to learn, or have limited learning abilities? Usually not! Usually these kind of people are smart, highly intelligent, or even geniuses! They learn in the right setting for them.

A child must be taught to learn to read, and love it. To love learning. To love exploring. I am so thankful that God allowed me to get through school with the ability to love learning, in spite of the bad things I ran into. So, how do I learn? I find something interesting and jump onboard and get to speed on the subject as fast as I can. Do I decide what to get into? Generally, no. It “just happens”. When I HAVE to learn something on purpose, it can be difficult, if it’s not interesting to me, it’ll be a battle. That said, a course of study that is interesting will be a joy to be in. (This is how I’m developing the education of my children.)

Is it then, just a matter of the Will? No, I can honestly say from personal experience it is not something that has anything to do with “the Will” of man. There are standards that some try to say are universal, in focusing and attaining to a certain way of thinking. These people don’t understand what it’s like to be a 1.3 or a 2.2 or a 3.1, etc. To have a hyper-focus ability is really, really, cool. I am happy with the way mine works. That’s not to say my life is wonderful, through and through, all the time. Of course it isn’t, I’m human, just like the rest of you out there. I have my hypo-focus times, and they can be bad. From these highs and lows I am made up–not from just one end of the spectrum. I can really appreciate the things God shows me in my life journey.

That’s not to say that you, possibly a normal person, can’t enjoy your life as that normal person. God made each of us a certain way. Learn to LIKE how you are. And don’t think everyone has to be just like you! I’d not like everyone to be just like me. I like being me, and interacting with other types of people. We all compliment each other!

There’s a little bit of A.D.H.D. behaviour in everyone these days. Of course, technology produces behaviours that are similar to what is called ADHD. The key is Carla Nelson’s theories. After you go through the material she presents, can you put yourself on one of her Matrix squares, or on the Bell Curve? I found this stuff exhilerating. I had been reading about ADHD for a long time. I knew that I had”ADHD”, but I’d never been diagnosed. I actually don’t want to be diagnosed. I don’t have it to my detriment. I was able to totally come to terms with this whole thing via the above link.

I really understand it all pretty well now. Just like I thought all along, I’m not deficient in anything. I’m a bouncing brain!
