Bored on a chilly, wet Saturday afternoon, I took a stroll on the drudgereport page. I looked at a few of the articles listed as important … nah. So I then look down the list of links to column writers.
One must know at this point: I go to the drudge site less than five times a year, from now to back when it first appeared online.
So I scrolled through with my eyes, and feeling that boredness combined with wanting to bite something hard: I saw this name “Hal Lindsey”. Oh yeah …
I clicked on his name, never having done that before, and found this at the top of the list, and figured it’d be good.
Of course, that’s MY title for the link 😉
I grew up in a Baptistic household. My father was a nut about End Times things and of course was a follower of Hal “the late great planet earth” Lindsey.
I had to listen to my dad spout this and that about the horrible things going on, plates of the earth shifting and what that meant about the east coast rising up and California breaking off of the US, literally.
Oh more and more and more than that by far. That’s just the stuff I recall the easiest from him. I don’t know if it was Hal’s stuff or my Dad’s own deductions. Anyhow, I dispised that stuff. Gladly I found the Reformed Faith when I was 19 years of age. It’s not that I sought it, I recognized it’s Truth when I came into contact with it in a Theology I class in college.
So here we have Hal still spouting off calamity stories. Scaring people. Natural disasters happen all the time, sometimes more often than others, but it’s nothing “historically new”.
Wars and weather and peoples rebellions, and liscentiousness have always been around. Nothing new. Nothing new at all.
Christ spoke words to HIS disciples, that these things would happen in THEIR generation. Yes, A.D. 70 is the destruction of the Temple and the fullfillment of those prophesies. In any case: How Hal can be so deluded all these years is beyond me. But he has been. My memories of my Dad and Hal Stuff are from the 1970’s.
So what is new? Just a new bunch of terrorists, a new bunch of Empire Builders, a new bunch of “we can police more than we have now … let us conquer the earth” folks.
Just weather patterns that go up and down. Nothing “new” just time marching on as it does, and has, since it’s inception. Mud slides, droughts, too much rain, not enough. These things all are combined. Hurricanes. Tornadoes. Earthquakes. Volcanic eruptions. New? Nah.
Europe is a moreso calm environment, environmentally speaking. The North American Continent and Islands in the Carribbean are more chaotic.
America has WILD weather compared to other parts of the world. Hurricanes and Cyclones emerge all over the globe at different times. In 2003 were there any crazy hurricanes that hit the Florida peninsula? How about before that? How often? Compare records since they’ve been kept. Other “crazy years” are out there too. How about years when nothing crazy happens? That’s crazy in and of itself.
We live in Georgia. The hurricanes of 2004 HELPED us. We’d had drought for so many years. We needed the rain. We got a lot. We are thankful.
Of course other places aren’t thankful, losing life, home, possessions, etc. But this is the way of the world. We are under the sinful curse still, but closer to it’s perfecting time. God will one day redeem the earth. But for now it groans, as it always has in some way or another.
Hal needs to read historical documents from the past …. years. He needs to read the Bible without the aide of wooden glasses. He needs to ask God to open his eyes, his heart, to the TRUTH of scripture. He needs to know that newspaper escatology is not a real position, even if he practices it’s existence as true. I mean, it’s not REAL not possible.
Hal, become a Postmillenialist, or at least an Amillenialist. Yeah, that’s it, Amillenialist is fitting for you.
