3.1 Sound System in my office

Post Published:

My current setup is 3.1 in my office.

I have a Pioneer unit (VSX-452) that I’ve had for years, it’s been through a lot, moving around, used by me, used by my kids, sitting forlorn under a side table then for a few years, and then in 2023 I recently had enough, pulled it out and got it connected to the Pioneer Floor speakers I’ve had all along, and using a Y connector to my TV monitor headphone out put… I had 2.0 first, got my old Yahmaha Center Channel speaker from storage and was 3.0 with movies and tv, just basic sound, and then got a audio converter optical to rca thing, connected my PC, basic good 3.0 much improved.

Then I said why not look for another than can do more, found one that offered some surround capabilities.

One day I’ll find my rear speakers, connect them for 5.0 …

but that idea was quickly put to the “what do I really need first” … a sub.

Enter Monoprice 12″ for just over $100. Big old black square under my desk since early October. Wowsies! It works in my small office 9’x8′ sort of footage.

I have my sub connected to my Pioneer VSX-452 via speaker wire. I have my front speakers connected to the sub with speaker wire.

This is the best way I can use a powered sub with my setup. I LOVE how it adds to the 3.0 sound in movies and tv, and to the 2.0 for music. So now it’s 3.1 for movies and tv, and 2.1 for music.

My speakers have decent bass sound. Just giving a boost via a sub, taking a bit of the job away from them has improved the feel of music so much. It’s more fun to listen now. More than OK at desk, great on my little side couch (blissful spot.)

One day another sub and rear speakers and movies will boom hurray for me.
