• Birding Up

I’ve seen birds on our property of late, just the last week or so, which I’ve never seen IRL before, but know about, being a “birding” person. In the front we have ‘wild’ things growing where we used to have planted things before. I then put “wild flower” seed there some years ago and we…

  • Christmas Day 2006

Ah, Christmas is over … well, not over, but it’s the inevitable “let-down” already, not that it’s just now started … it’s been so for awhile. What is the “Christmas Let-down”? It is: After opening presents, spirits eventually fall to a lower level. It’s different depending on the year, who’s there, what was gotten under…

We are back from our Christmas Day 2006 movie. A Night in the Museum in Imax. It was the first showing for today, and packed, and when we left the next group of people was already gathering thickly for the second showing.

The movie itself was great, and it was greater in Imax, I’d bet. We really enjoyed it. Family Fun with capital F’s. It was clean mostly, and full of laugh out loud times, and that was for Adults and Children both. I read a small review earlier and it mentioned that is the one Stiller movie that you can call “sweet” –you really can, it has that about it, it’s not gooey, it’s real sweetness, as a Dad who makes his 10 year old son proud of him, believe in him as a great Dad, Dad proves himself to his son, and to himself. That’s the basic stuffing that it’s about, but HOW that happens is what all the FUN is about.

At the end, during the credits there are two things to stay for that run first on the top left, then on the bottom right. Mr. Van Dyke is funny, funny, funny.

In the audience it was obvious that children (younger ones) thought the three old men very funny during the movie, especially Mr. Rooney, most especially him. FWIW

I can’t say more, I don’t want to give the movie away, it’s just such a miss-mash of natural history mixing away in a museum and it is something that works, for fun, it is eye popping cool, and Stiller just does what he needs to to make it all work. It’s said he’s not a good actor in this (or anything) but I disagree about this movie, he really has to pull something out of his hat to make it work, and work he does.

  • Merry Christmas

May you all have a very Merry Christmas! I still have to put decorations on the tree, my husband got the lights on it yesterday late afternoon. A lot of the presents are wrapped, but not all as of yet. I’d like to make some more cookies this afternoon, and hope I can. I had…

  • Early Christmas Present

[NEW: Picture added to post December 23, 2006] Hubby brought me a Christmas present yesterday. He couldn’t hold it over … why? It’s a Betta (fish) and a really cool glass “bowl” that is blue and shaped like a big fish with a wide open mouth at the end, which is the “top” of the…

Your betta fish looks pretty. Thadddeus is a neat name. Are bettas supposed to be alone or can you have others with him? Is he a he? That is a pretty neat present. Take care, and have a wonderful Christmas.

Becky, Thanks for noticing my fishy! Yes, he is a he. Betta’s usually live alone, they are “fighting” fish, and do well alone in small spaces.

Male Bettas are pretty, females don’t have the nice tail and fins like the males have. The betta I have is fancier that most bettas, being a “crowntail”.

      Have a wonderful Christmas too!

  • Weather Dull Gray

Ah, weather. It’s not “cold” but it feels a tad chilly in the house, with the weather the way it is. Currently it’s overcast and usually raining –drippy or steady or pouring (since sometime in the middle of the night.) I’d love to have a fire in the fireplace, not a huge hot one, but…

We had a surprise snowy landscape to wake up to this morning on Dec 23 in the Puget Sound area of Washington. This evening it is still there in most grassy areas and some frozen slushy stuff on parts of roads and our porch and steps. It will probably still be there in the morning as it is freezing, but I don’t know if it will be there till the 25th. It would be neat if it did, but around here, a white Christmas is rather rare. The temps are nearing the 40s during the day but mostly hovering in the 30s, so there is a chance of it. That is a nice touch and makes it seem more like Christmas, and makes the inside more cozy.

Your “weather” conditions sound so nice for Christmas! We are staying warm here, outside. The chill has vacated and don’t know if we will even want to try a fire on Christmas morn.

Often for us it is nice and chilly or frosty for Christmas, snow on Christmas is always unlikely, it does snow in this area, usually in January or February, and if it does snow it doesn’t last long most times be it December, January, or any other month.

We get cold snaps that are deep and last three or more days, sometimes two or so days. Those are either dry, or ice storms. I’d love an ice storm for Christmas. It’s a bad thing for power lines and trees, but looks as Wintry Wonderland as one could wish for, and everything shuts down as if it was a holiday. As I said about the snow, this ususally only occurs in Jan. or Feb.

We are supposed to have rain tonight, and lows will be in the mid-40’s, so no ice overnight for Christmas. It’ll be sunny with clouds thickening today, and up to 64, so quite warm. Christmas Day they are promising some rain, at least cloudy and cooler, just looking for a high of 50. At least it’s cooler and sort of “Christmas-like” –a change from warm, warm, rain, cloudy, some sun. FWIW

  • FLY Pentop Computer

At Costco this end of the year holiday season they had/have in their “toy” section the newer Leap Pad thingie called “Fly Pentop Computer” –I was aware of this product since it came on the market, but wasn’t sure about it at first, and then learned it was a Leap Pad product, and then finally…

  • Shellfishness

My hubby is home since last evening. It’s now morning, and talking about when I went to bed (I shall not report it, it is quite shocking) and what I had been doing beforehand last night, he got a gleam in his eye and put in a PS2 game that he’s been playing of late…

  • Gardening 2007

My hubby is gung-ho to work with me to make a very large garden this (coming soon) year. Hurray! I was talking about broccoli when this subject was being spoken of between us. I said it would be good to be able to grow our own, as one bag of frozen florets wasn’t enough, and…

  • Brain Type and sporting

I’ve been going over the book “Your Key to Sports Success” [ braintypes.com/products.htm ] and find it very interesting and full of good info, and am looking forward to hopefully getting the next book, which is coming out in early 2007 “Get the Most Out of Life: with Your Inborn BrainType” –as soon as it’s…

  • Christmas is coming

It’s Monday, December 18th. Just a week until Christmas Day. We finally got our Christmas tree on Saturday night. It’s in the house set up, but I haven’t the lights to put on it. They are “somewhere” and hubby isn’t here to fetch them out for me. I used to love decorating trees for Christmas…
