This black male feral kitten lives in our backyard. His mother showed up in 2008 with three kittens (they may have been born under our house.) She doesn’t stay here now, but comes back every so often, two kittens stayed here, and one we just haven’t seen at all, FWIW. They are still feral, but…
I got something new last week. A Celestron PowerSeeker 127 EQ telescope. We haven’t done much with it yet, as it’s been Full moon and waning from there, but still too bright, or too overcast to see much. We did see the moon right after rising (Feb. 11th 2009 between 9 & 10pm) just looking…
I’m happy you got a telescope. I have wanted one for a very long time but I’m holding out for a large one. Is the one you have a reflector or a refractive type?
Debbie, it’s a Newtonian reflector type. I haven’t worked with it much since writing about it due to how I’ve been feeling, allergies, pms, and then everyone came down with a virus, and I’m still getting over that one …
I’ve wanted a telescope and just finally decided to dive in with one that wasn’t pricey to at least have SOMETHING since waiting wouldn’t get me anything better. I hadn’t been waiting, per se, not actively. FWIW.
It’s been really cold the last couple of mornings. It’s been in the mid-teens upon waking, so it’s good to have enough firewood to really heat up the fireplace all day/evening. It’s what gets me happier to go through these still too dark days, even with sunny clear skies. Daylight is less than 11 hours…
It’s getting cold these next few days here in Georgia. Colder than it has been all Winter/2009. Hubby is in a colder region, WI where it is very cold, very, very cold. It’s dry here, snowy there. I was looking at accuweather just a little bit ago and watched a videocast on the Southeast blog…
Apparently while on our trip to MI right after Christmas my fishies both died. The house must’ve gotten too cold is all I can figure, they lived in separate bowls. Oh well. Goodbye Thaddeus and Fish With No Name. ๐
I got a new camera for Christmas, actually a Sony Handycam, HDR-SR11. I’ve had a couple of Handycams over the years, but not for several long years, and never one like this. The old ones were tape driven, and were problems for me over and over and I tore one apart and gave another one…
I’m glad to see a decent baseball channel on TV finally. The MLB Network. (CH 213 DIRECTV ) My largest frustration with TV last baseball season was ESPN and their Baseball Tonight program. It was the one to watch, if you could get to it. TIVO’ing it was nigh impossible. Right now, Hot Stove is…
I like Harold Robbins in commentary (might have the name wrong) I think he was the Royals’ 2nd Baseman. Costas is great on game color. The thing I most enjoy is the Historical spots.(I’m 65 this year) The Ken Burns series is tremendous. Maybe throw in a “Bull Durham” once in awhile MOVIE. Good Luck.
I love the MLBN. I’ve been watching it since the beginning on 1/1/09/ Harold Reynolds is great!!! I love the shows and the old games. Keep up the great programming!!
We were going to buy a PS3 system for Christmas, but yesterday after getting paid for the last time before Christmas we were out doing some shopping and DH decided “let’s just get the PS3 today, and a game for the children, and one for you, and one for me” and then not wait until…

I have looked on your other site and didnt see anything posted so I looked here and see this as the most recent. I wonder if you knew that we are likely to have a white Christmas here in the NW. The temps have been sub freezing for over a week and though they are slightly higher in the forecast for this week, they are still hovering close to freezing as the highs and dipping below for the lows, and there is precipitation forecast every day this week. we had a big snowfall last night and have had snow on the ground and streets since mid week last week, as the temperatures have stayed in the twenties all the time. we had 3-5 inches and now about 6 more inches on top of that, although the tv says our area had 9.5 inches dumped in this storm. We (or I) bought a new prelit tree, it looks very natural, a “just cut Scotch pine”. the cat tried to get up inside to climb the trunk, but has not gotten very far and now in the last couple days has thankfully left it alone. Other than that, I have put fake greens with candles on the fireplace mantle but the wreath is still in the garage and a few strands of lights are in there too. Rick has been sick and has not felt like doing any decorating, and the wreath has to be hung by a cord that is tied to a nail in the overhang over the door and it is just too high for me to reach and I wont do a ladder on the porch to hang it as even if I do get the gumption to climb it, I would not be able to feel comfortable to take the wreath up and be able to tie it. So the snow scene is definitely the thing that is getting me in the Christmas mood.
Marysue,
what is your email address? I want to send you some snow photos you may appreciate. we may end up with a white christmas although rain is in the forecast, but temperatures are barely over freezing so it may still come down as snow early in the day. I am nostalgic about it of course, but stressful driving in it and having to shovel the driveway. I have done that 3 times. the first time by myself about 5 inches before Rick got home, and then we both did it about 7 more inches including a layer of ice from freezing rain, and this morning both of us did more about 4 more inches, and a layer of ice and packed snow underneath. Rick also dug out the street in front of us and did the neighbors driveway, since her husband is not home. Now they are predicting another snowstorm to hit tomorrow that may bring 1-5 inches to our county. I had today off (Monday) due to the bad snowy weather. Most things were closed, and we have not had mail delivered to our street since last Wednesday so we went to the post office, slipping and sliding most of the way, to pick it up. It is a bad time to have problems with mail delivery. the post office is extremely busy and so standing in line for mail can take a long long time.
Becky, I’ve been away and haven’t done anything with my sites for awhile … we were busy with Christmas and going to go to MI a couple of days after, and instead left the afternoon of Christmas Day, a sudden decision since we had nothing else going on and were anxious to just get going, though we weren’t exactly ready to leave, we worked hard and got out of the house by 5pm. Normally, the last few years, we go to a movie in the afternoon, and since we weren’t happy with anything that was out, we just felt empty since that was our tradition, and filled that space with the “lets go early” thing. (We’ve traditionally left earlier than planned on multiple trips over the years.)
